Formulation of Toothpaste Preparation of Neem Leaf Extract (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) with Variations in Na-Cmc Concentration and Antibacterial Activity Test Against Streptococcus mutans

This study aims to determine the effect of Na-CMC on the physical quality of neem leaf extract toothpaste preparations (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) and antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans bacteria. Toothpaste preparations were tested for antibacterial activity using the diffusion method by observing the inhibition zone formed around the disc paper. The results showed that toothpaste preparations with organoleptic physical quality, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, spreadability, foam height and stability produced good preparations. In the antibacterial activity test of toothpaste preparations, the diameter value of the inhibition zone was obtained which was F1 12.32 mm; F2 10.77 mm; F3 10.35 mm; F4 (k-) 0 mm; F5 (k+) 13.91 mm. The formula that has the best antibacterial activity based on statistical results is formula 1 with an inhibitory zone diameter of 12.32 mm.
