Sambung nyawa (Gynura procumbens (Lour.) Merr.) has pharmacological properties that reduce bleeding risk due to its flavonoids and saponins. This study evaluates the activity of its leaf extract and identifies the effective dose for increasing platelet count and blood clotting time. The powder was macerated with 96% ethanol and used on 24 animals divided into 6 groups. Heparin was induced for 5 days via intraperitoneal injection, except in the normal group. Each group received PSIDII® at a dose of 18 mg/200 grams of rat body weight, 0.5% CMC-Na, and extract doses of 100 mg/kg BB, 200 mg/kg BB, and 400 mg/kg BB.The results showed that the ethanol extract of sambung nyawa leaves can increase platelet count and accelerate blood clotting time in rats induced with heparin, with an effective dose of 400 mg/kg BB.
